These Excel files are a good starting point for creating new ODK forms using the XLS form standard. They include the survey, choices and settings worksheets, all the required column headers and a large set of commonly-used column headers that will fit most needs. They also includes a set of embedded comments, describing the use of the different columns, how to add new languages to your form and some other little tips for improving your ODK form writing. The first file (xlsform_template) is a skeleton we have provided to let you start writing a new form as quickly as possible. The second file (xlsform_template_with_opinionated_formatting), includes examples of how you can make your form structure more clear using Excel's formatting options. It is highly recommended to find a way of making your structure (groups and repeats) clearly visible in your Excel file. You may not like the choices of font or highlight colour used here - these are only one person's preferences - but you can still use this form as an example of what things you should consider highlighting in your own XLS form files.
