Description

Auteur : FAO

Summary: Sustainability Assessment of Food and Agriculture systems (SAFA). With a view to offer a fair playing field, FAO built on existing efforts and developed a universal framework for Sustainability Assessment of Food and Agriculture systems (SAFA). After 5 years of participatory development (History of SAFA), SAFA has been presented to FAO member countries on 18 October 2013; the SAFA Guidelines, Indicators and Tool and App are freely downloadable from this webpage. Dimensions Used: Good Governance; Environmental Integrity; Economic Resilience; Social Wellbeing Methodology: Within each dimension a variety of measurements are needed and then compared to ideal practice. There is a somewhat subjective intepretation of where to place each measurement on the assesment scale, which does allow for local contextualisation but may result in differing results dependent on the user. Usage: Dedicated app produced for data entry and analysis. Results mostly displayed through radar charts. Relevance to CCRP: Moderate. Indicators are often worded in very complex and lengthy ways - this is to try to ensure they are specific but this level of specificity may come at the cost of nuance, and the translations of these questions into local languages may require some skill to ensure the meaning is retained.
