A report on the impact of a reforestation project conducted in Sub-Saharan Africa. Using an approach of 'farmer managed natural regeneration', indigenous trees - long treated as weeds and cleared to make room for non-native trees - were allowed to regrow, with many benefits. The process involved policy and legal changes, as well as farmers' perceptions of the trees as a weed. The project was led and managed by farmers, and its success is attributed to this key factor.
